day after Christmas
professional Santa Man

The maintenance man where mom lives is a professional Santa Man (we were taught from the very beginning that the guy in the red suit wasn't the real Santa, just someone standing in for Santa -- a Santa Man -- someone who would pass our wishes on to the real Santa at the North Pole).
Randy's been away since just after Thanksgiving, working magic. Today, the day after Christmas, it was a little disconcerting to see Santa in street clothes, wielding power tools, fixing the back door of the kitchen.
I wonder how it feels to him -- to be ordinary again.
That story seems right outa a Flannery O'Connor story!
ReplyDeleteI love this story! From handyman to Santa man. I wonder, too, how it feels to return to the ordinary after living in that magical world for a month or so. I would have LOTS of questions to ask him.
ReplyDeleteI wrote early this morning. Didn't post it because it was so un-profound, even more so than yesterday, if that's possible, and I was sure I would come up with something with a little more depth, if I waited a while. But now it's ten o'clock and I don't have anything any more profound, so it's mundane or nothing.

If they don't feel profound to you, then you can call them snapshots of life and be happy you wrote. :-)
