The Empire State Building

A peach kabob¹
A home for gods²
At the very tip
Kong loses his grip³

Fourth in height⁴
Icon of might⁵
Symmetrically planned
Art deco-ly grand⁶

¹ In the book James and the Giant Peach, the peach ends its journey with a great squelch atop the pinnacle of the Empire State Building.

² In Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson series, Mount Olympus is the Empire State Building.


³ King Kong tried to escape his captors by climbing the Empire State Building, but it didn't work out the way he planned.

⁴ In North America...for the time being.

⁵ The nickname of the state of New York is "The Empire State," a reference to its wealth and resources.

⁶ The Empire State Building's art deco style is typical of pre-WWII architecture in New York City.
