  1. "The Day After a Snow Day"

    Leaving coffee, book
    Comfy sweats, snoring dogs, warmth
    I brave frigid morning
    Vowing to be grateful
    for yesterday's brief respite

  2. So you write in the morning???? At home or at school? Do you start the night before?

    1. These past few days, yes, I've been writing in the morning, moments before publishing (or even drafting in a post). That whole "burning the candle at both ends" is me. I work until 6 at school, go home and work until 8:30, eat dinner, collapse, get up and start working at 5:00. Lather, rinse, repeat.

I try to do a lot of noticing and jotting on the weekends so that I have material for the week ahead, but I've run dry on that. I started a haiku/art project that I'm going to give my brother for Christmas, so I can't share any of that until after the holidays. That used up my usual stash this week.

To help the ideas flow, I'm playing haiku tag with myself for the next few days. Last line of yesterday is first line of today.

    2. Phew! Your schedule wears me out! Although it's similar to mine. This teaching stuff definitely ain't for lightweights. I can't believe you craft all those beautiful haiku in the midst of all of that. Your brother is one lucky guy. Your project, I'm sure, will be wonderful.

  3. Plenty of time to revise on the way to work this morning!

    1. So glad you got a bit of a break! You/we all need that!

    2. All of those sound soooo good. Steaming cups and snoring dogs are the best. Hope all went well today.

    3. Aside from an hour commute each way, today went great. I really do have a terrific job with great kids and colleagues.

  4. I felt that 7 o'clock panic this AM, today, too. Whew.

Here's a quick tanka. Looking forward to break when I can "step out" of the routine a bit more.

  5. Trying to decide who that someone might be. Dog? Cat?

    1. I've suspected they head out on their own. Leaving mate behind to run the farm, they seek fame and fortune and adventure on the high seas of Iowa. :)

    2. If I have two socks period, I consider it a minor victory. That matching stuff is for the birds.

    3. Oh, yes, I see! That someone is most definitely me. I think I'm a bit jealous of the way they can just take off like that. Looking forward to a freer time when I might join them in their travels.
