We Were Buoyant

We Were Buoyant

We were buoyant,
sure and confident.

Now, at the bottom of a chasm,
nearly buried in negativity,

we keep our eye on the edge
and work to relocate,

tow ourselves back up,
weather this disruption of democracy,

melt the ice that encases our heart
and remember who we truly are.

  1. Love the imagery here, Mary Lee.
"Now, at the bottom of a chasm,
    nearly buried in negativity,

we keep our eye on the edge
    and work to relocate"

That's me lately. And "the edge" is such an apt image as it brings with it a feeling of being "on edge" (which I surely am!), and on a knife's edge (ready to slash), and at the edge (ready to crawl out). All are possible right now.

Also, just a reader response here, but reading your poem I was immediately brought back to Mark's fall into the chasm in THE HONEST TRUTH and what that meant for his own re-birth.
