Supreme Court Birthright Citizenship Case

“As the justices prepared to hear this landmark case today, reporters for The Times took a close look at their family histories. In each, the reporters found newcomers to America — colonists, enslaved people and immigrants alike — who paved the way for a descendant to ascend to the highest court in the land.” NYT, 4/1/26

Unlocked link to an in-depth look at the immigration ancestry of the nine Supreme Court justices who will decide this case.

  1. Thanks for bringing this article to my attention.

    "Justices

  2. This just crushes me - that this is a discussion at all. One of the first children's books my friend Laura ever worked on as an editor was about the original case with Wong Kim Ark case, and it was so cool to think it was going to be something kids knew about - how to be brave and fight for what is right. It was so few years ago that we cheered for this kind of thing...

  4. I wonder if the justices understand the irony of making this decision when they have benefitted from the law as it stands. The tricube form does a lot of emotional lifting here. I like it.
